’14 Seconds’ – the stop clock showed the reading. It was the time it took Aaron to win his first Cage Fighting Fight. He couldn’t believed it. His partner was crying and with moist eyes he joined her too. They wept for a long time. The host enthusiastically announced, ‘The winner is Aaron’. But the words echoing in Aaron’s ears were, ‘You won’t be able to walk for life without Aid’.
5 years earlier, those words came out of a Doctor’s mouth who was looking at Aaron’s medical reports. Aaron sustained multiple injuries to his wrist, shoulder and both femurs (thigh bone) in a motor bike accident while coming from his Martial Art classes. Aaron did not give any heed to Doctor’s advice as he was sure that he will able to walk. His source of inspiration was hundreds of marial art and kung fu movies he had seen since his teenage years. Movies were not real but they still were based on real stories and characters.
Once out of hospital, the only thing he could think was how to strenghten his thigh bone muscle. He could walk with aid and that was enough for him to hop from one room to other. His partner did not approve him of doing exercises so he started spending more time in loo. He would stand on one of his leg for as long as he can and then on other. He was desperate and determined to get back to his normal life. The biggest help came from his Martial Art teacher who was blown away by Aaron’s persistence to regain his strength. He agreed to visit frequently and teach him to gain back the strength. The plan did not go ahead as he was pushed out by Aaron’s partner and close friends. They all thought that both of them had gone insane and too much influenced from action movies.
Aaron, determined to carry on his marital art training found the alternative – Skype. His teacher started imparting lessons from Skype. Three months of training resulted into improved performance in his walking and the Skype lessons were then turned into real one to one as everyone could see the difference. The Ray of hope in Aaron’s eyes were now reflecting in everyone’s eyes.
I will walk – Aaron announced in a small get-together and everyone smiled with their approval. They knew he was right.
