Amy was shocked as she came out of the doctor’s chamber. Her three year old son, who looked thin and pale, was playing outside in the kids play area under the watchful eyes of the other woman.

The other woman was her mother-in-law. She had always looked at her as other woman in her husband’s life, nothing but a big interference.

Amy was only child of her parents, raised with all the pampering she could get. Although Amy’s mother was a great cook, she made sure that Amy was raised as a princess, kept millions miles away from learning cooking and house chores.

In her final year of college, she fell in love with Aaron. The love for Aaron just blew her away and the princess turned into a normal girl, trying to learn how to cook, how to manage house, learning anything and everything which would make her the best wife. They moved to another city due to Aaron’s job shortly after their marriage. Thats when she realised how close his mother-in-law was to her husband and gave her the title of ‘The Other Woman’.

Every night, Amy used to pick up the phone and instantly dislike the voice on the other side. The voice always belonged to the other woman. Amy could never understand why this woman always call when they were having food. The only reason she could think of was to check what she had made and whether it was as tasty.

Amy knew, she wasn’t a great cook while Aaron’s mother had a long list of her own recipes, specially invented for Aaron’s taste. She was always jealous of her but today as she walked out of Doctor’s chamber, she couldn’t understand how to react.

Amy’s son had no interest in food, always looking for excuses to skip eating. All the tests were normal and Doctor advised her to try innovative foods or recipes. Nothing helped, he was always tired especially since he started going to playgroup.

Aaron who was on a year long contract in Dubai, advised her to visit their family doctor in home town. Today after a battery of tests, doctor confirmed that her son has a rare allergy where he could only eat certain foods. When Amy’s asked about what recipes she could try, the family doctor pointed at her mother-in-law. ‘She got all the answers. She is the one who turned her world upside down to raise Aaron, your husband out of similar rare disease’, said Doctor. ‘She still couldn’t eat her lunch or dinner before checking whether Aaron had eaten properly’… The words were echoing in Amy’s ears. All those phone calls and text messages were purely a mother’s love and concern for her child, she realised.

Amy looked at the other woman, took a deep breath and hugged her mother (not-in-law) tightly.
